Frequently Asked Questions:

What makes Belknap Fishing the choice of so many repeat customers?

I have guided on the Kenai Peninsula since I was 18. I run my business as a very personalized business that relies on customers returning year after year. I have fished for lodges in the past that pay high dollars to advertise all over the world, they never see returning customers. As of last season, every group that traveled from all over the U.S. has returned to fish with me. They do this because I try the hardest, and they can tell I care so much about the resource. Not only will all our boats be clean, we fish with only the finest gear available. When you fish with me, not only will you enjoy your trip, but I will show you why the Kenai is so special to me.

Do you guarantee fish?

We do not guarantee fish, nor should anyone. We do guarantee that I will try my hardest to make the most of your Kenai Peninsula fishing trip. Our boats are kept in the cleanest of conditions, and we promise we will try our hardest to put fish to the boat.

How do I take care of my catch?

After your day of fishing, whether it be fishing with me on the Kenai, or fishing Halibut, your guide/captain will fillet your catch. After your catch is filleted on the Kenai, it can be taken to Ed's Kasilof Seaood in Soldotna. After your Halibut fishing trip out of Deep Creek, your captain will vacuum pack your fish for $1 per pound, leaving you with a finished product ready to ship or put on the plane.

What do we do for FOOD?

Locally in Soldotna, there is a Fred Meyer that has everything you could ever need for food, equipment, or gear. There are dozens of restaurants, from 5 star to McDonald's. There is no need to bring food to Kenai, or shop in Anchorage. The Kenai/Soldotna area has everything you could ever want for food. If you do not have time to shop, you can mail us what you want and we can have it for you when you get to town.

How do we get there?

After you land in Anchorage, you can choose to rent a car and drive the beautiful 170 mile drive to Kenai, or you can fly directly to Kenai and rent a car there. Most people choose to make the drive because it is so amazing.

Can I bring my own equipment to fish?

For King Salmon we fish with 10'6 G Loomis Rods, and Shimano Tekota line counters; only the finest of equipment. We prefer to use our equipment when fishing for King Salmon. During Silver Salmon season if you would like to bring a rod of your own, you may, however, we fish with only the finest of equipment year around.

Is gratuity included?

No. I am often asked what to tip your guide. I always tell my clients that if you are impressed with the cleanliness of the boat, the quality of gear used, the manner in which the guide acted, and the quality of the catch, then the tip should represent how your day went.

Is there fishing to do after the charter?

Throughout the King Salmon season the Kenai River receives hundreds of thousands of Sockeye Salmon that can be caught from the bank. The Russian River is only a 45 minute drive from town that offers the best chance to catch limits of Sockeye Salmon.
