The Kenai River is the trophy fisherman's dream come true. Les Anderson caught the world record King Salmon on May 17th, 1985, weighing in at 97 pounds, 4 ounces. Boasting 9 of the top 12 world records Kings, there are many Kings caught in the seventy pound range every year. The average catch is 30-60 pounds.

All of our King charters are full day, 8-9 hour charters to guarantee the best opportunity for you to have a chance at your catch of a lifetime.  We also guarantee the hardest working, most compassionate guides on the Kenai River.  We promise our trips to be filled with excitement. In May and June the Kenai River returns a run of tributary spawning King Salmon that travel fast through the system in search of their final grounds. The advantages to fishing King Salmon in June include: less guide and local traffic on the river, combo halibut/salmon charters out of Ninilchik, do-it-yourself Russian River sockeye fishing, and Kasilof River King Salmon Charters. The slot limit in May and June requires that King Salmon between 46-55 inches be released. As stated before, the world record King Salmon was caught in May. Our largest King Salmon caught are hooked in May and June, therefore the slot limit is placed on the river to preserve this precious resource the Kenai Peninsula relies on.

Arguably the best time to visit the Kenai Peninsula is July. The second run Kenai River King Salmon is a much larger run that produces a larger average King Salmon of 40-60 pounds. These fish spawn in the lower portion of the river, thus holding in the river in more target-able areas. This time of year, it is not uncommon to produce a limit of fish for a group of four fisherman. Many of my clients choose to fish with us in July because on the 1st of July, Ling Cod opens out of Seward for our Multi-Species charters. Even though we have seen many great days of weather in May, June, August, and September, the weather in July tends to be more consistent.

Our boats are 2008, 20ft Willie Predators that are powered by state regulated 4 stroke, 50hp motors. We fish with only the finest G Loomis rods and Shimano reels to assure your King Salmon of a lifetime does not get away. There are King Salmon charters on the Kenai that take place in 1986 boats, that have not been cleaned since the season before. I can not stress enough the quality of fishing trip that you receive from Belknap Guide Service on the Kenai Peninsula. It is impossible for someone to guarantee you a successful trip on a half day charter. Be careful when deciding on your fishing trip. The most popular way to fish the Kenai River is by back-trolling, or powering against the current to control the rate at which move through the fishing hole.  We are active members of Nate's Bait Pro Staff, some of the greatest bait to use for King Salmon. Fishing plugs, or bait right off the bottom is the most effective way to target these monsters.

When fishing for King Salmon, we target the lower portion of the river where moose are often seen. On occasion we have seen caribou, and in the later portion of the season bears often come down to the river.
