Kenai Silver Salmon Fishing with Belknap Guide Service

Kenai SilverThe Kenai Peninsula Silver Salmon season (August-October) is the time to fish for fishermen interested in constant action. The Silvers may be smaller but the limit is twice that of the King Salmon and catching full limits of these eager to bite fish is the norm.

Silver Salmon on the Kenai River are normally caught in the range of 12-20 pounds, and not only do the Kenai River Silvers put up a great fight, but they also make for excellent table fair. Silver Salmon season on the Kenai River is also a great way to get children interested in fishing because the day is full of action, and hooking into a Kenai River Silver will bring a smile to even the most experienced fisherman's face.

There are many different ways to target the Kenai Silver Salmon. Throwing spinners into slack water waiting for the aggressive strike, similar in aggression to that of a Big Mouth Bass, is the most active and one of the most fun ways to target this fish. Sometimes we prefer bouncing eggs off the bottom waiting for the tip of rod to bounce, indicating a strike. Some mornings are spent with the boat at anchor targeting the fish as they come in on the tide. Regardless of the method, fishing Alaska's historic Kenai Peninsula for Silver Salmon is a breath taking experience.

The Kasilof River, also on the Kenai Peninsula, offers very similar action but we tackle these fish from a motor-less drift boat. The Kasilof River is just 13 miles south of the Kenai River, and is less than a 20 minute drive from our cabins. We usually target the Kasilof Silvers by back-bouncing eggs into shallow water awaiting the signature aggressive strike of the Silver Salmon.

The fall Silver Season is a great time to come to the Kenai Peninsula. The Kenai Peninsula is notorious for it's crowds in search of the world record King Salmon during the summer months, but as Fall draws near and the Kenai Silvers begin to show up, the populations shrinks as most people are heading back down to the lower 48 to avoid Alaska winters. The late Summer and Fall Silver Salmon runs in the Kenai River fishery is one of our best kept secrets. Come enjoy the solitude and action of this spectacular Fall fishery.
